Dear staff and parents/carers,
During make-good works in Zone E following the removal of demountable buildings, suspected asbestos containing material was found in-ground within the fenced off work area.
The small fragments of asbestos containing material were found during works between 14 May and 15 June 2022. The material was confirmed as bonded asbestos which means it is attached to other material such as cement or vinyl and cannot be crumbled by light pressure.
The material was bagged and removed from the area by a licensed asbestos removalist under the supervision of a qualified hygienist.
Safety measures including air monitoring have been put in place to ensure there is no risk to students, staff or the local community.
If further suspected asbestos containing materials are found, investigations and remediation will be undertaken in accordance with the Department of Education’s Asbestos Management Plan, SafeWork NSW regulations and sitespecific management plans. All work will be completed by licensed and accredited asbestos contractors, and monitored by occupational hygienists in strict accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines.
Testing will be completed to ensure the area has been fully remediated. The school will receive a clearance certificate before the area is open to students and staff.
The health, safety, and well-being of the school and the local community is our highest priority and we will continue to keep the community updated. Thank you for your cooperation during this important work.
